AMT provided architectural, MEP, and civil engineering services for the adaptive reuse of two nearly 100-year-old brick buildings in downtown Demorest. Originally used as graphic design and drawing studios, the structures were reimagined as a combined art gallery and event venue serving both Piedmont College and the Town of Demorest.
Following a comprehensive building analysis and survey, AMT designed the connection of the 1- and 2-story buildings into a cohesive gallery and assembly space. The two-story structure was completely gutted and stabilized with new structural steel columns and a fully redesigned floor system, highlighted by a monumental stair. The adjacent one-story building was renovated to include an event space and catering kitchen.
Working within a modified design-build delivery method, AMT collaborated closely with the client and contractor to fast-track completion in anticipation of a newly donated art collection. By preserving the historic brick masonry while integrating modern structural systems, the project maintains the character of downtown Demorest while providing safe, code-compliant assembly spaces for the community.
