Public Works Building Historic Renovation and New Maintenance Facility

Working with the City of Waynesboro, Armentrout Matheny Thurmond, P.C. contributed to a piece of history with the completion of the Public Works building project. The City was revitalized with the historic rehabilitation project which included the rehabilitation of the art deco 2,835 sq. ft. freezer building and a new vehicle maintenance facility. This project involved converting previous freezer rooms into public works offices with a conference room. The existing building extension was retained with cosmetic repairs to brick and glass elements. An existing rear machinery room was converted to a corridor leading to the new 14,200 sq. ft. public.

City of Winterville Center Historic Rehabilitation

AMT was selected by the City of Winterville to provide Planning, Architectural, Engineering, Construction Management and Funding services for the renovation of the historical building which once served as a high school and had been abandoned for over sixty years. AMT worked with the City Council and the Restoration Committee to develop a plan for use of the facilities, assess budgetary costs, prepare and submit grant funding documents. The renovation of the gutted out building involved removal of asbestos containing material, reparation of all stucco on the existing walls, reparation of the brick façade, new windows, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing facilities. The completely ADA compliant project.

Athens-Clarke County Department of Public Utilities Customer Service Center

This $2.2 million dollar renovation was recently completed to modify the former Athens First Bank headquarters to the Public Utilities Department Customer Service Center. The project required a coordinated phase set of documents that enabled the contractor to accurately bid and assist him in accomplishing the tasks of removing and protecting existing items to remain in the project, removing the asbestos in the building, demolishing the existing interior walls, and successfully renovating the project with the new layout. AMTpc also evaluated LEED criteria in order to determine that the building qualified for LEED certification and the project is on track.

Social Security Office Building

, February 23, 2016

AMT was selected to design a new building to home the local office of the Social Security Administration. The building encompassed 13,392 square feet and included site design services of surveying and development of the combination plat. Both surface parking and underground parking was designed for the site. An innovative chamber was designed to handle the stormwater water quality requirements of Athens-Clarke County. The budget for this project was approximately $1.6 million.

Athens-Clarke County Police Department Headquarters Renovation

AMT was selected to provide a complete interior renovation for the ACC 20-year old police department headquarters facility, to consolidate departments within the building and to update furniture and finishes. All HVAC, electrical, data, and security systems were updated or replaced.  A new fire suppression system was installed as well.  The building comprised approximately 26,750 sq. ft. and totaled $2.1 million in renovation costs (not including furniture and security).  The facility remained operational 24/7 during the renovation work and was phased to allow most of the staff to operate from this facility. In addition to the interior work, the roof was replaced.

City of Waynesboro Ice Plant Rehabilitation

The project involved the preservation of a one story 8,500 sq. ft. historic ice plant, constructed ca. 1905, for use as a welcome center, museum, meeting facility and office space. While maintaining its original industrial character, the building provides flexible programming with up-to-date technology. Collaborating with the City, AMT developed a plan that retained and showcased the building’s original light industrial character on the interior as well as the exterior, and met the City’s program goals and provided  the City flexibility of use within the public use areas.  AMT obtained 100% funding for this project from the Department of Transportation (DOT). The building now houses meeting rooms, reception.
